Bonding
Is there a Walpole, MA, dentist that does bonding?
Marshall Storm, DDS, can fix fractured, chipped, decayed, or discolored teeth by using a process called bonding. Bonding involves applying a tooth-colored resin to the tooth needing repair.
Composite resin is a type of plastic that is easy to apply and is also one of the most inexpensive dental options available. Bonding is an alternative to fillings and can cover areas of exposed tooth root, as with recession of the gums.
Bonding requires very little preparation of the tooth, and anesthesia is not usually required. Preparation is made by roughening the tooth slightly with a conditioning gel to help the bonding adhere better. The composite resin is applied and then set with ultraviolet light. The resin is then shaped, trimmed, and polished to match the neighboring teeth.
Bonding of one tooth takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour and only requires one visit, whether you are getting one tooth or several teeth done at a time.
Aftercare of dental bonding is the same as the rest of your mouth, just the normal brushing, flossing, and rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash. You will want to avoid high-staining foods in the first 48 hours after the bonding procedure. Plastic resin is prone to stain during that period of time, so the best plan is to avoid coffee, tea, berries, and smoking.
